a year on... emptier

Well, some things seem different, some don't. Our yioungest son is now 'really' gone, off to his 1st year of college, and I couldn't be prouder. Oldest son is out working for Obama, after graduating last spring, and I couldn't be prouder. The beloved dog of 14.5 years had to be put down a week or so ago, and now 'empty nest' has a deep, real feel to it. Me and the squeeze, and the two cats... basically us. Hmmm.....

Feels like I'm still in the midst of the change, and still unclear what I do w/ myself, other than the usual. However, that leaves the gaping hole of no dog/ sons with which to do things with. squeeze works full time, which is good for her; I'm often free-er in afternoon, evenings, and yet w/ travels here and there I haven't found a sticky volunteer opportunity- respite care for hospice; guide dog; drive a community bus.. who knows?
